KUWAIT CITY, Nov 18: Kuwait Municipality has endorsed the placement of 16 pedestrian bridges along the Fourth Ring Road as part of an ongoing project to study, design, and supervise improvements to the highway’s overall performance, Acting Director General Eng. Manal Al-Asfour said.
In a letter sent to the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART) regarding the bridge designs, Al-Asfour confirmed that the municipality had no objection to approving the proposed locations. She noted that the sites were selected in line with a Municipal Council decision issued on November 7, 2023, following the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs’ approval of an earlier council decision that had been objected to.
Al-Asfour said the final locations for the bridges were chosen in coordination with the Kuwait Public Authority for Roads and Transportation and the General Traffic Department, while ensuring compliance with the Ministry of Interior’s safety and security requirements. She added that the proposed designs include special equipment, such as elevators and straight ramps, to facilitate access for people with special needs, as well as sufficient space to meet the safety standards set by the Ministry of Interior.
Minutes from a related meeting held under the consultancy agreement indicated that officials reviewed the visual presentation submitted by the project consultant, discussed bridge locations and designs, and made adjustments to avoid conflicts with road right-of-way. A total of 16 pedestrian bridges were proposed along the Fourth Ring Road, with agreement reached to adopt their locations, pending approval by the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation of the designs and their feasibility.
