WASHINGTON, March 4, (Agencies): In connection with the tragic death of Lyft driver Nasrat Ahmad Yar, a 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in Washington, DC. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 3, where Yar, a hardworking 31-year-old supporting his family, was fatally shot while sitting in his vehicle after dropping off a passenger. Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Chief Leslie Parsons provided updates on the investigation during a recent press conference.

The investigation revealed that several young suspects approached Yar, possibly attempting to take his vehicle. In the ensuing interaction, one of the suspects shot Yar, and they fled the scene through an alley, captured by surveillance video crucial to solving the case. After eight months of dedicated effort, the police identified and arrested the 15-year-old suspect on Friday, charging him with “felony murder while armed.”

While acknowledging the arrest, Parsons emphasized that other outstanding suspects involved in the homicide remain at large, urging the community to come forward with any relevant information. He expressed the devastating impact of the reckless actions, stating that no arrest can fully repair the loss suffered by Yar’s family.

Nasrat Ahmad Yar, the sole provider for his wife and four children, was working an extra late shift at the ride-share company when the incident occurred. A GoFundMe campaign, organized by Jeramie Malone, has raised over $520,000 to support Yar’s family. In response to the arrest, Malone posted an update expressing gratitude to the Metropolitan Police Department for their hard work and empathy, urging continued support for Yar’s grieving family.
