15 Nations Condemn Israel's Move on Somaliland, Back Somalia’s Sovereignty

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 18: Foreign ministers from 15 countries have strongly condemned Israel’s reported decision to appoint a diplomatic envoy to Somaliland, calling the move a clear violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a joint statement, the ministers, including those from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia, rejected what they described as unilateral actions that undermine the unity of states. They reaffirmed their full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia, emphasizing that the Somali government is the sole legitimate authority representing its people.

The ministers said such a step violates key principles of international law, including the United Nations Charter and the African Union Constitutive Act. They warned that the move sets a dangerous precedent that could destabilize the Horn of Africa and negatively impact regional peace and security.

The statement underscored continued backing for Somalia’s state institutions and called for respect for internationally recognized borders and sovereignty.
