14,425 infections, 488 fatalities in India

NEW DELHI, April 18: Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s data showed on Saturday that there were 43 fresh deaths and 991 infections in the last 24 hours in the country due to COVID-19.

The ministry said in its morning update today that the death toll reached 480 as 43 fresh deaths were reported yesterday while there where 991 fresh infections so that the total number of corona infected climbed to 14,425.
The latest figure indicates that there is a minor rise in the deaths from the earlier one day death of 23 to 43 while the number of infection saw a slight decrease to 991 from the earlier figure of 1007.


Out of the total infected cases, 1992 people were discharged from hospitals after they recovered, the ministry added.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra remains the worst affected Indian state as the death toll climbed to 201 while there are 3323 infections followed by capital New Delhi with 42 deaths and 1707 infected people as the pandemic hit 33 Indian states.

The Indian authorities decided recently to extend nation-wide lock-down until May 3 as the earlier 21-day lock-down ended on last Tuesday.
The central and state governments had slapped curfew-like restrictions, closing down schools, educational institutions and universities imposing ban on religious and other festivals, huge gatherings.


All transport services including train, bus, metro and flight were also came to a halt in wake of the spread of the deadly virus.
