JAKARTA, April 28 — A deadly train collision at Bekasi Timur station in Indonesia has left at least 14 people dead and 84 others injured, according to the state railway operator.

The accident involved a collision between the Cikarang commuter train and the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train on Monday night, the Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) confirmed. Authorities said the death toll rose to 14 as rescue operations continued, while the injured are being treated across multiple hospitals.

Emergency response teams, including the BASARNAS, are working alongside ambulance services to evacuate passengers and recover those trapped in damaged carriages. Officials said the operation has been challenging due to severe damage sustained by the train coaches.

Rescue efforts remained ongoing as investigators began assessing the cause of the crash. Indonesia’s rail network has previously experienced occasional accidents, often linked to human error, signaling failures, or technical issues, though officials have not yet confirmed what triggered this latest collision.
