KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7: The Director of the Deportation Department Brigadier Jassim Al-Misbah says approximately 130,000 expatriates have been deported in the past four years. Following a visit to the old deportation prison (Talha) in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, an order was given for the immediate transfer of detainees to the juvenile building, which will be equipped in four phases. The first phase, designated for men, has been completed, with 90 percent of the building now ready.
This facility can accommodate up to 1,000 detainees. He stressed that the new building meets the required specifications and has a capacity exceeding 1,400 detainees, compared to approximately 900 in the old facility. Al-Misbah indicated that deportees are permitted to contact their families via landlines, and if an international call is needed, a prison phone is provided from the secretariats for this purpose, adding that detainees can meet with their embassy representatives in a designated office.
Regarding the deportees’ airport procedures, he said they previously entered through the same gates as regular passengers, but now, in collaboration with airport authorities, a dedicated gate has been established to ensure that necessary procedures are followed, allowing deportees to board without mixing with regular passengers. Meanwhile, the women’s section will remain unchanged for now, with plans to transfer them within the next two months
