1,277 Ex-Kuwaitis Seek Syrian Citizenship After Kuwait Revocations

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 20: Chargé d’Affaires at the Syrian Embassy Tamim Al-Madani announced that the embassy has so far received 1,277 applications from women whose Kuwaiti citizenship was revoked and who intend to regularize their status regarding Syrian citizenship. In a statement to the newspaper on Sunday, Al- Madani confirmed that the embassy is finalizing the required documentation to refer the files to the relevant authorities in Syria, and then closely follow up on these files.

He said 1,270 cases have been processed till date, while the remaining applications are still being processed. He added “The number of consular transactions completed by the embassy since January till date reached 46,852, covering various consular services provided to the Syrian community in Kuwait.” He stated that the embassy provides a wide range of consular services, pointing out the ongoing efforts to organize appointments and queues, simplify application procedures, and outline the required documents in advance. “Priority is given to humanitarian and emergency cases to accelerate processing and reduce the number of times citizens need to visit the embassy.

Significant progress has been made in clearing backlogs, organizing the flow of visitors and shortening waiting times, but some transactions depend on approvals and procedures by the relevant authorities in Syria,” he explained. He affirmed the coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant Kuwaiti authorities, which helped resolve many issues and process transactions concerning Syrian citizens in Kuwait.

He added that the embassy fully abides by the fees and regulations set by the competent Syrian authorities, and that any changes to fees or required documentation are announced through the embassy's official channels. Addressing the Syrian community in Kuwait, he asserted that the embassy remains committed to providing the best services and easing administrative procedures in accordance with the law and regulations.

He urged the community members to follow official announcements and ensure completion of all required documentation before visiting the embassy. He also stressed the need to comply with instructions issued by the Kuwaiti authorities regarding residency, as well as respecting the laws and regulations to enjoy their stay in their second home, the State of Kuwait
