KUWAIT CITY, Jul 7: The Kuwait Ministry of Interior has renewed its reminder to business owners and operators about the mandatory installation of security surveillance cameras under Law No. 61 of 2015, urging covered establishments to ensure full compliance with the country's CCTV regulations.
The ministry said a wide range of public and private facilities are legally required to install and maintain security cameras as part of efforts to enhance public safety, protect property, and support law enforcement investigations.
The law applies to:
- Hotels and hotel apartments
- Commercial and shopping malls
- Cooperative societies
- Residential complexes
- Banks
- Youth centers
- Sports and cultural clubs
- Gold and jewelry stores
- Shopping and entertainment centers
- Hospitals and medical clinics
- Fuel stations
- Mosques and other places of worship
- Industrial areas
- Maritime ports
- Shooting ranges
- Warehouses and storage facilities containing precious or hazardous materials
Under the regulations, surveillance footage must be retained for 120 days without any alteration or modification. Establishments are also required to carry out regular maintenance of CCTV systems and ensure that cameras and related security equipment remain operational and up to date.
The Ministry of Interior emphasized that maintaining functioning surveillance systems is an ongoing legal obligation and forms an important part of Kuwait's security framework.
