12 shops sealed as Municipality inspectors conduct raids in City to avert virus spread

KUWAIT CITY, April 4: Head of Capital Municipality’s Emergency Team Zaid Al-Enezi announced the closure of 12 shops after 593 shops were inspected within the scope of the Capital Governorate to ensure the extent of their commitment to the application of all measures for preventing the spread of coronavirus, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Al-Enezi explained that “Team C” inspectors of the Capital Municipality’s Emergency Team carried out a field tour of the shops, cooperative societies and central markets in several areas of the governorate to ascertain the extent of commitment of owners of the shops, which are excluded from the closure decision, to the rules and regulations, and to ensure implementation of all precautionary and preventive measures.

The inspectors issued 12 citations against shops that operated in a manner that constitutes an imminent threat to the health and safety of the public. They also dealt with 163 incoming reports through the hotline number. He stressed that owners of commercial activities must abide by all decisions issued by the competent authorities to avoid administrative closure, adding that inspectors in the Emergency Team will strictly apply all decisions on the violators.

Meanwhile, Director of the Department of Audit and Follow-up of Municipal Services in Mubarak Al- Kabeer Municipality Daidan Al-Adwani said the “Team B” inspectors carried out a field tour in West Abu Futaira area to ensure compliance of the shops, which are excluded from the closure decision No. 703/2020, to the relevant regulations. He revealed that the team issued 19 warnings to shops that were found to be in violation of the decision, and they were closed with the cooperation of their owners, adding that the team also found 40 shops that were committed to the decisions of the Council of Ministers, Kuwait Municipality and Ministry of Health.

In addition, the Director of Farwaniya Municipality Mohammed Sarkhouh said the supervisory agencies of Farwaniya Municipality issued 1,832 warnings to shops in the month of March, instructing them to abide by the decisions of the Council of Ministers, Ministry of Health and Kuwait Municipality. He explained that they issued 332 citations against violations in this regard, as well as 132 citations against street vendors.

Three restaurants, 50 cafés, 288 barbershops and a health institute have been closed. A total of 56,300 garbage containers were washed and sterilized. Also, 55 inspectors have been trained on operation of machinery and equipment of Kuwait Municipality in line with instructions of the Director General of Kuwait Municipality Engineer Ahmed Al- Manfouhi in anticipation of any emergency. Sarkhouh added that 167 warnings were issued against hygiene-related violations, and 236 other citations were issued against violations of general hygiene and wastage transportation regulation No. 190/2008.
