Nationality nod for citizen’s son

KUWAIT CITY, June 17: The Court of Cassation issued an unprecedented ruling recently when it cancelled the decision of the Supreme Committee for Nationality, which refused to grant citizenship certificate to the son of a female citizen. The court took this decision, ending a legal dispute that lasted for more than 11 years. Attorney Bassam Al-Asousi filed the lawsuit on behalf of his client. In a statement to daily after the announcement of the ruling,

Al-Asousi disclosed: “We are still waiting for the ruling to be published to benefit from it and whatever the court has established in line with the law.” Providing a detailed explanation of the case, Al-Asousi said the female citizen submitted a request to grant a certificate of Kuwaiti citizenship to her son to the Nationality and Passports General Department in January 2010, but she was very surprised when the Supreme Committee for Nationality rejected the request on June 6 of the same year even if the Court of Cassation issued a final ruling to prove her son’s relationship with his Kuwaiti father.
