11 killed, three wounded in shooting at South African home

DURBAN, Sept 23: Eleven people, including a pregnant woman, were killed and three others wounded when gunmen opened fire at a home in KwaMakhutha township, south of Durban, in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province.

The shooting occurred shortly before 11 pm on Tuesday, when 14 people were gathered inside the house in the Ziko area. Police said preliminary information indicated that three men entered the property and opened fire. Ten victims died at the scene, while another died after being taken to hospital.

The attackers fled after setting fire to a vehicle belonging to one of the victims. KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, while the motive remains unconfirmed. Police said some of the victims were reportedly on the Crime Intelligence radar in connection with alleged illegal activities, but did not provide further details. A possible feud between rival groups has not been ruled out, according to police.
