11 killed, 20 injured in explosion at Pakistan police checkpoint

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: At least 11 people were killed and 20 others injured in an explosion at a police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan, northwestern Pakistan, on Saturday, according to local authorities.

The explosion occurred at a checkpost near the border between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, local newspaper Dawn reported.

Rescue 1122 said the dead included eight men, two women and a child, while rescue teams continued operations at the site and worked to recover victims from the debris.

Police said several people, including police officers, customs personnel and two civilians, were among those injured.

Bomb disposal teams were dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the blast. The checkpoint is used by police for security checks along the D.I. Khan-Quetta route.
