KUWAIT CITY, Jun 19: Kuwait’s Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh detectives have solved 10 robbery cases involving a suspect accused of impersonating a police officer, following the arrest of a Bedoun.
According to a security source, the suspect was linked to seven robbery cases in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and three cases in Khaitan. Investigators discovered that the vehicle allegedly used in the crimes had been reported stolen and matched the description of the vehicle used during the robberies.
The investigation began after several expatriates reported being stopped by a man wearing traditional Kuwaiti clothing and driving a black SUV. The suspect allegedly claimed to be a police officer before stealing their money and mobile phones.
Following intelligence that the suspected vehicle was present in the Al-Rai area, a team from the Jleeb Criminal Investigation Department moved to the location and arrested the suspect after a violent struggle.
A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that it had been reported stolen from the Al-Riqa area.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes. Several victims were summoned and identified him during a legal lineup, while also confirming that the vehicle used was the same one involved in the robberies.
Authorities believe the suspect may have committed additional crimes, as some expatriates who were victims may not have filed complaints due to the small amounts stolen, their illegal residency status, or other concerns about approaching police stations.
Police also found narcotics and drug-related paraphernalia in the suspect’s possession during the arrest.
The suspect has been referred to the Public Prosecution, and authorities said any additional cases linked to him will be reported as investigations continue.
