MANILA, Oct, 20, (Xinhua): A cargo truck driver was killed and five others were injured after a cargo truck crashed into vehicles and caught fire in Quezon province, southeast of Manila, on Monday, local police has said.
Police said the truck was navigating a descending curve of a highway in the municipality of Atimonan in the early morning, when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to mechanical trouble.
The truck consequently crashed into a pile of mud on the roadside, hitting a parked wrecked truck, causing it to tilt on its side, and subsequently slid and bumped two running tricycles.
After the collision, police said the truck caught fire and exploded, trapping its driver inside. Local firefighters rushed to the scene but failed to save the driver, who died at the scene. The two drivers of the tricycles and three passengers were injured.
