KUWAIT CITY, June 22: Two days ago I had the honor of meeting and interviewing His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. I hereby convey the details of the interview to the esteemed readers, but within the limits approved by the Council of Ministers’ General Secretariat (CMGS). This is the first interview of His Highness the Amir to a Kuwaiti newspaper. It comes at a decisive and timely period, and at a defining moment in the march of Kuwait and the region. Its content serves as a road-map and a compass that the nation needs to navigate towards the path of safety.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

The interview began with me asking His Highness the Amir about those who are trying to aggravate and deliberately tamper with the state system and its practices, them unfortunately being the members of the National Assembly. His Highness the Amir replied, “We are observing the scene carefully and deliberately, and we give one chance after another… But when it comes to the point of harming Kuwait and its people, we stand firm and ask them to review their stances. “We remind them that the trust of Kuwait and its people is in my hands. I will never allow anyone to violate or offend that trust. We also affirm to them that we have measures and options that keep everyone in check.

“We believe in our democratic system and we are proud of it. We will not allow anyone to tamper with this system, as it is based on a clear constitution, the articles of which clearly outline the rights and duties through authorities that cooperate with each other. In case of disagreement, there is a Constitutional Court responsible for interpreting such articles of the subject of the dispute, and everyone must respect its provisions. “Kuwait and its people represent the red line that I will not allow anyone to cross. Our choice is positive democracy that stems from the Constitution. We will not allow it to be used as a tampering tool.”

Regarding the current media situation and the growing role of the media, His Highness the Amir said, “I am happy that we have media elements who write based on their conscience that is keen about the wellbeing of Kuwait and its people. There is no harm in criticism that stems from a sincere and impartial patriotic spirit.” His Highness the Amir reiterated the fact that the political leadership is carefully observing the political scene. He said, “We have positive entitlements that Kuwait will witness for its advancement at all levels, especially those related to security, stability and the reverence of the state.” In conclusion, I extended my gratitude and appreciation to His Highness the Amir for his warm welcome, and for his patience during the interview.
