Workforce sees rise in 3 months; Expat labor takes lead

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 3: The latest labor market statistics showed that the number of workers in the public and private sectors increased by 30,973 within three months, reports Al- Jarida daily. The statistics issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics revealed that the number of Kuwaiti workers in the two sectors increased by 3,734 as at the end of June 2022; while the number of non-Kuwaitis in the labor market increased by 27,239.

The total number of workers as of June 2022 reached 1,915,865 — 438,559 Kuwaitis and 1,477,306 non-Kuwaitis; while the number of workers in the government sector reached 457,149 compared to 1,458,716 in the private sector. The number of males in the labor market reached 1,489,517 compared to 426,348 female workers. The Ministry of Education has the highest number of workers in the government sector with 133,101; followed by the Ministry of Health with 63,501.

On sectors that attract the most employment in the private sector, the statistics stated that hospitality and food services recorded the highest number of workers with 690,028; followed by the construction sector with 222,283. On the educational qualifications, the statistics indicated that most workers in the government sector hold a university degree (211,089); while most of those employed in the private sector have intermediate qualification (736,093).
