Visit visas transfer to dependent (family) visa not allowed

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: Instructions have been issued to stop converting visit visas of all kinds into residency for those who entered the country since the beginning of this year.

The sources stated that the instructions issued by the Ministry of Interior to the Residency Affairs Department is not to allow expats in the country to sponsor any of his family members who came to the country under visit visas after the Corona virus crisis, stating that all types of visas have been allowed to be extended. Until the end of this month, however it will not be permitted to convert any of the visit visas into a residence except with the permission of the minister and in very specific humanitarian cases.

The sources pointed out that renewal of visa is ongoing for those who have previously came on family visas. The new decision applies to those wishing to convert visit visa into residency, and this procedure falls within the framework of amending the demographic composition, especially as there are fundamental changes under the new residency law that will soon be implemented.
