‘Amazon Web Services’ plan to open branch

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 27: The US Amazon.com for electronic trade has expressed its interest in the Kuwaiti market, including the Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is specialized in cloud computing services, reports Al-Rai daily.

Sources pointed out that ‘Amazon Web Services’ has informed the Investment Promotion Agency about its desire to open a branch in Kuwait, and asked for a copy of commercial and regulatory laws about this activity, and procedures for the issuance of commercial licenses and necessary work permits, and decisions regulating the proportion of national labor.

AWS provides a fast content delivery network that securely delivers data, videos, applications, and application programming interfaces (APIs) to enterprise customers around the world, with less latency and faster transfer speeds, in a developer friendly environment.

The sources pointed out that the entry of a company such as AWS in the local market comes within the response of major international companies to ‘encourage direct investment’ towards attracting prestigious foreign companies to operate in Kuwait, especially after the marked improvement in the simplification of government procedures associated with improving the business environment.

The sources explained that the presence of activity of these international companies contribute to enhance the performance of the economic cycle in Kuwait, and increase investment fl ows, whether foreign or domestic, which contributes to the achievement of sustainable growth and economic diversifi- cation and development goals of the State.
