KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The Court of Cassation ruled to uphold the verdict issued by a lower court to sentence an expatriate to oneyear imprisonment with hard labor for helping the businessman “Bashar Kiwan”, who is wanted for the execution of prison sentences in a case of bribery of $20,000, to flee outside Kuwait via the Abdali border.

Previously, the Criminal Court had convicted Kiwan and another defendant to five-year imprisonment with hard labor after convicting them of forgery of the minutes of the meeting of a company in the lawsuit filed by their business partner Sheikh Sabah Jaber Al-Mubarak.

The security authorities arrested an Egyptian truck driver who smuggled Bashar Kiwan out of the country via Abdali border to Basra, an Indian driver who took Kiwan to the Abdali border, and Kiwan’s brother, who arranged and coordinated his exit from the country with the drivers. It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian driver had smuggled Bashar Kiwan to Basra, then Kiwan left for Beirut using his French passport from where he traveled to Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
