It quoted Minister of Electricity Mohammad Kharbutli as saying the explosion took place outside Damascus causing a drop in gas supply to Deir Az-Zour station and consequently forcing other stations to go out of service.
Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ali Ghanem was quoted by SANA as saying the explosion might be "an act of terror."
However, the real cause of the explosion is yet to be determined.
SANA said technical teams were working to restoring full electricity in all stations in coming hours.(KUNA)
