Stunt motorist flees police; ‘drifting’ on rise

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: Traffic officers failed in their bid to arrest a stunt motorist caught driving his 4X4 on two wheels along Sabah Al-Nasser-Firdous Intersection. The officers arrived at the scene shortly after the Operations Room received a distress call from a woman who complained about the unruly behavior of a motorist impeding traffic flow. The motorist sped off upon sighting the officers and efforts of the officers to track him down proved abortive. In a similar incident, several youths who were using their sport cars for ‘drifting’ along Wafra Road blocked the traffic flow within the vicinity for several hours.

Equipment stolen: An unidentified individual stole heavy equipment worth KD 20,000 from a store of construction materials in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area. According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received a call from an employee of the store about the theft, securitymen rushed to the location. The store manager informed securitymen that the lock of the store was broken, and engines, electrical equipment, metal pipes and construction materials worth KD 20,000 were stolen. Fingerprints were lifted by Criminal Investigations officers and a case was filed. Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti citizen lodged a complaint at Jahra Police Station against an unknown individual who stole the tyres of his car which was parked in front of a house in Taima area.

Fire in pharmacy: Firefighters extinguished a fire that engulfed a pharmacy shop opposite the Jewelry Market at Mubarakiya. The incident led to a massive material loss without any record of human casualty, says Al-Seyassah. A security source said officers at the Operations Room dispatched rescue officers, paramedics and firefighters to the scene immediately after receiving a distress call concerning the incident. They contained the flames in a commendable operation without it spreading to neighboring structures. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was due to a short circuit
