Edifice to contribute to success of dev plan

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: The director of the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Bridge linking Doha is a pioneer project and will contribute to the success of the development plan and achieve the vision of HH the Amir of Kuwait whose dream is to transform Kuwait into a financial and economic center, reports Annahar daily.

He added, the features of the project which is being executed in coordination with the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport and the parties working on the project’s design, construction and maintenance have become clear and ready to be completed.

The bridge will connect the Shuwaikh Port and the Free Trade Zone directly with the Doha Port and the Jahra road and help reduce the burden on the internal roads network through easy flow of traffic. He disclosed the project is in its final stages and almost 94 percent complete.

In Doha, he said, the percentage of completion is 99 and is expected to be finally completed by the end of this month. Of the Doha Link project he said it is one of the largest infrastructure projects and highways in the country, which aims to reduce traffic congestion and complete the road system in Kuwait, where all the levels of the road have been adjusted to suit the international codes used in the design of roads and bridges to ensure the fl ow of traffic and visibility.

This is in addition to safe driving, as the bridge is designed according to the American specifications Aashto 2007 version 4 as well as technical specifications of the Ministry of Public Works and will have a life span of 100 years. He added, the Doha Link includes two new intersections: the Doha intersection and the Entertainment City intersection.

The link will be connected directly to the Shuwaikh Port Interchange, which is being constructed within the Jaber Bridge project, as well as three government buildings for services, a weighing station for trucks, a control and traffic control system linked to the central system and a comprehensive control system for the bridge structure and services.

The Doha Link is 12.4-km in each direction, and the number of lanes is 3 with an emergency lane in each direction. The purpose of the bridge project, he said, is to connect the south of the country with the north to accommodate the expected increase in traffic density over the next 30 years and ensure full flow of traffic towards Kuwait City, Shuwaikh Port, Doha Port, Jaber Al Ahmad City and the Doha region.

The installation of surveillance cameras, traffic monitoring and street lighting poles are expected to begin during October and the work is expected to be completed during the contractual period which runs upto Dec 30, 2018.
