Report sheds light on crime

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 22: Attorney-General Dhirar Al-Asousi said Monday, that the integrity of the judiciary, its stature, and its elevation are signs that reveal the civilization, advancement and progress of nations, reports Al-Jarida daily. In his introductory annual report prepared by the Public Prosecution, Al-Asousi said the Prosecution Office in Kuwait, for nearly half a century, has been moving towards brightening the image of justice, by constantly watching over the rights of individuals and institutions.

This is in addition to its national responsibility to attain this lofty status. He added that a report was prepared for the Public Prosecution’s work for 2021, in which those responsible for preparing it adopted the method of induction and investigation on the basis of the statistical chart, to anticipate the future parameters and the best ways to reduce crime in society.

The report stated that the annual number of Public Prosecution cases in 2021 was 30,094 compared to 22,803 in 2020, and 21,353 in 2019. He explained 27,965 cases were looked into in 2021 at rate of 92.9%. He indicated that the types of crimes reported to the Public Prosecution in 2021 are commercial crimes (10,123), juvenile crimes 5,251 , other crimes 3,219 , state security crimes (64), and crimes of infringement on public funds, financial markets and terror financing (320) and press, media and information technology 2,205 crimes . The total number of defendants in 2021 was 33,880, 90.2 percent men and 9.8 percent women, 58.5 percent of them Kuwaitis and 41.5 percent are non-Kuwaitis. The report indicated 15,835 judgments were issued in 2021 which were referred by the Public Prosecution.
