President of the World Police Sport Union (USIP) Lt-Gen Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah said Saturday the 2nd USIP World Police Games provides amicable atmospheres for athletes from around the globe to meet and cooperate.

The championship will help the police institutions to share experience and promote the physical fitness of their personnel, he said at the opening ceremony of the event.

The event, which lasts until Nov 10, is organized by the UAE Police Sports Federation in collaboration with USIP under auspices of UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Saif Al Nahyan.

Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Interior Lt-Gen Saif Al-Sha’far attended the ceremony on behalf of the minister.

The unique championship is the world’s largest gathering of athletes from police institutions, Sheikh Ahmad said.

He thanked the UAE Ministry of Interior and the organizing teams of the event for their efforts to set the stage for this impressing event and expressed his best wishes for the competitors.

On his part, Brig Walid Al-Shamsi, director of the event, said the competitions include four police related sports, namely practical shooting, swimming, judo and Jiu-jitsu.

He highlighted the importance of such events in strengthening the friendship among police institutions of different countries.

Brig Al-Shamsi noted that 987 athletes from 44 countries are taking part in the event.

Each delegation is made up of no more than 26 athletes, four coaches, an administrator/assistant and a leader. (KUNA)
