KUWAIT CITY, March 10: MP Khaled Al-Shatti has stressed the need to stop manipulation of the naturalization file, because those who deserve citizenship have been deprived of their right.

In a press statement, Al-Shatti called on the Ministry of Interior and the government to identify those who manipulated this file and violated the rights of those eligible for naturalization. He said the current National Assembly must address the issue immediately like its predecessor which allocated a session for amendment of laws related to naturalization. He pointed out this led to the discovery that there are about 300,000 to 400,000 who were naturalized through fraudulent ways. He added a disaster unfolds day after day since many of those behind citizenship anomalies have been appointed to various leadership positions.

Meanwhile, parliamentary observer MP Nayef Al-Mirdas affirmed he is working hard for the legislative and executive authorities to reach an agreement on the ratification of important bills. He urged the two authorities to work in the interest of citizens through the enactment of laws for building a productive society which will contribute to national development.

On another issue, MP Nasser Al- Dosari praised the level of cooperation between the two authorities in the last session which resulted in the passage of four important bills. He explained the ratification of the Conflict of Interest Bill will contribute to ongoing efforts to fill the legislative vacuum, while the approval of the proposed amendment of the Army Law gives “our Bedoun brothers a chance to join the military.” He called on the lawmakers and ministers to continue to working in this manner to approve vital bills, such as the proposal to grant citizenship to a certain number of deserving applicants in 2018 in its second reading in the next parliamentary session.
