Ex-MP eyes setting up offices in PAMA, PIFSSKUWAIT CITY, Aug 13: Former MP Kamel Al-Awadhi has suggested the establishment of offices in the Public Authority for Minors Affairs (PAMA) and Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) which will be under Al-Durra Company for the Recruitment of Domestic Workers. He stressed the need to coordinate the efforts of all concerned parties in easing the burdens of citizens in recruiting workers, as well as to regulate the labor market and protect it from manipulation. He praised the institutions that worked towards the success of the domestic workers company, especially since it is considered a national social project made possible by the painstaking efforts of many parties. He also lauded the support of the Ministry of Social Affairs, particularly its decision to deduct KD 50 from the total cost of hiring domestic workers for each Kuwaiti family that recruits housemaids through the company. He affirmed this decision stems from the humanitarian viewpoint of the ministry. He appealed to cooperative societies, as the largest partners in the company in terms of share in the capital – about 60 percent, to utilize their capabilities and potentials in ensuring the success of the company.Meanwhile, Chairman of the Public Utilities Committee MP Abdullah Fahad disclosed they will soon ask the Ministry of Public Works about the measures taken regarding the Mangaf tunnel flooding. In a letter addressed to the National Assembly Speaker, the committee said it holds the ministry responsible for delaying the preparation of its report due to lack of commitment to respond to queries within the specified period, Fahad revealed. He said the committee found that the action taken by the ministry against the contractor in charge of the tunnel was not enough, taking into consideration the dire consequences of failure to abide by the contract. He added the committee has emphasized the need to ban the contractor from participating in State projects, similar to the action taken by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) against contractors who failed to carry out their tasks. He pointed out the ministry must play an important role now and all of its procedures should be transparent, asserting there is still time for the ministry to prove its willingness to cooperate with the committee.By Abubakar A.
