‘Nazaha’ facing hindrances

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6: The semi-annual report of the Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) which was recently reviewed by the Council of Ministers, identified 5 obstacles and negatives facing the authority in its work, and put forward proposed recommendations to overcome them, reports Al- Jarida daily.

The daily said the recommendations have the approval of the Council, which in turn addressed the concerned authorities to implement them. The sources pointed out that the first of these obstacles is the continued delay of some authorities in updating the data of those covered by the provisions of the financial disclosure on a timely basis, in accordance with the text of Article 20 of the Executive Regulations of the Authority, which may expose those subject to the penalty for delay in submitting the financial disclosure declaration.

The recommendation was to urge the authorities to provide the required data to the authority as soon as possible and update it on a timely basis, so that the authority can carry out its role in inventorying data and educating those covered by the provisions of financial disclosure, by circulating to all bodies of the Council of Ministers, so that the achievement and the high percentages achieved by the authority continue to receive.

The sources added that the second obstacle was the delay in approving laws by the National Assembly, and the Council of Ministers recommended that it continue to follow up on approving relevant laws, especially the law of conflict of interest and amendments to the Penal Code, while the third obstacle included weak coordination between the authorities in joint initiatives in Kuwait’s strategy to enhance integrity and combat corruption. The recommendation was to urge the implementing agencies through the Higher Committee to communicate continuously with the technical committees to submit the required reports and documents on time.
