Kuwait FM meets chief of US Senate’s foreign relations cmte.

WASHINGTON, May 11: Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met Thursday Chairman of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Senator Bob Menendez and his deputy Senator James Risch. At the outset of the meeting, Sheikh Salem conveyed greetings of Kuwait’s leadership, government and people to the US leadership, government and people, and their wishes for continued growth, prosperity and progress for the US and its people.

The foreign minister, who is currently in an official visit to the US, admired the steadily developing relations between the two friendly countries and their peoples. For his part, Senate Menendez expressed gratitude of the United States and its people for Kuwaiti efforts to assist in the evacuation of US citizens from Sudan in light of the critical security conditions there. He hailed this stance, noting that it reflected the strength of the relations between the two friendly countries and their peoples. He affirmed the commitment of the United States at the governmental and parliamentary levels to the security and safety of the State of Kuwait and its people.

He stated that the US is keen on taking bilateral relations to broader and more comprehensive horizons to serve the common interests. He added that the US Senate is particularly eager to support and strengthen cooperation with Kuwait in a way that serves common interests and achieves the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.

During the meeting, a number of regional and international issues of common concern were discussed, including the latest developments related to the Syrian file and the political solutions proposed to end the humanitarian crisis suffered by its people and incurred by neighboring countries, as well as the developments in Iraq and the whole region. In this regard, Senator Menendez expressed his country’s appreciation for Kuwait’s pioneering humanitarian efforts and endeavors, as well as its role in promoting stability and supporting diplomatic efforts to settle disputes in the region. The meeting was attended by Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States Sheikha Al-Zain Sabah Nasser Al-Saud Al-Sabah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Minister’s Office Affairs Minister Plenipotentiary Nawaf Al-Ahmad, and a number of senior officials of Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy in Washington.
