KUWAIT CITY, March 4, (KUNA): Iraq’s top lawmaker Dr Salim Al-Jabouri on Sunday said he was thankful for the support Kuwait has given his war-torn country, with aid running the gamut from humanitarian to relief assistance. Iraq “wants to turn a new page in its relationship with its Arab neighbors, “Al-Jabouri told the press after meeting with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
On his encounter with His Highness the Amir, the Iraqi parliamentarian said it centered on strategies for closer bilateral ties, in addition to security and political developments in Baghdad. Governments from around the world announced nearly $30 billion worth of financial aid to Iraq in a recent Kuwait-hosted international conference on reconstruction in the war-battered nation. Kuwaiti National Assembly (Parliament) Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim on Sunday held official talks with his visiting Iraqi counterpart Salim Al-Jabouri and his accompanying delegation. During the talks, both Speakers discussed cooperative relations between Kuwait and Iraq and ways of promoting and developing them in various fields, mainly parliamentary area, Al-Dustour news network said in a press release.
They also exchanged views on a host of key issues of mutual interest, the latest regional and international developments and necessary measures to address regional challenges, it added. The talks were attended by several Kuwaiti members of Parliament and Iraqi Ambassador to Kuwait Alaa Al-Hashemi. Al-Ghanim then held a luncheon banquet in honor of the Iraqi guests. The Iraqi Parliament Speaker arrived in Kuwait on Saturday on a two-day official visit.
Meanwhile, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al- Hamad Al-Sabah received on Sunday at Sief Palace the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Dr Salim Al-Jubouri on the occasion of his visit to the country. The reception was attended by head of the mission of honor accompanying Al- Jubouri, MP Ali Al-Deqbasi, Director of His Highness the Prime Minister’s Diwan Sheikha Etimad Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq Salem Al-Zamanan.
