Fearing repeat of Philippines employment crisis, MoH provides jobs for 70 Indian nurses

KUWAIT CITY, May 29: Fearing a repeat of the Philippine employment crisis with India, Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has rushed to provide job grades for some 70 Indian nurses following a complaint filed by the Indian Embassy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explaining the reasons and implications of the nurses’ problem since they were recruited about two years ago, reports Al- Seyassah daily.

“Health sources said the ministry has succeeded in providing grades for more than 150 nurses out of 588, while many of them were appointed under the ‘wage for work’ as a temporary solution until the necessary grades are given for the rest of the nurses by the Civil Service Commission.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has asked hospitals and health centers to identify all their needs in writing including instruments and furniture in response to complaints received by the Ministry recently citing apparent lack of prescription paper and tools in some hospitals.

The Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basil Al-Sabah has stressed on the importance of creating a Supreme Council for Health at the state level to consolidate health files and policies in all sectors that provide health services and set a clear timetable for the development of health plans.

Dr Basil Al-Sabah told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) after attending a Ramadan meeting on the importance of establishing the Supreme Health Council to include the most important government ministries. “We look forward to founding a Higher Health Council to unify all policies and adopt a single approach within the plans for future visions.

Dr Basil pointed out that there is a study to control the process of medical drainage through the adoption of a health code, along with the civil ID number of the patient to prevent waste of medication and make sure the beneficiaries know the type of medicines that were dispensed to them from clinics or other pharmacies. He stressed on the need for Kuwait to apply the unified electronic file system to accelerate the healthcare provided to the patient.
