KUWAIT CITY, Dec 4: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) is planning to use machines for the collection of empty plastic bottles and glass or metal containers on an experimental basis, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources. Sources said consumers can obtain discount coupons, which they can use in cooperative societies, every time they put the above mentioned items into the machines.

Sources revealed the authority will coordinate with the cooperatives to implement this project that is aimed at reducing pollution caused by empty plastic and metal bottles. Sources warned these items usually cause severe environmental damage to land and sea.

This is just one of many projects aimed at reducing pollution, including the ‘Plastic Collection and Recycling’ competition that EPA organized several months ago. Hundreds of participants collected thousands of tons of plastic bottles, which were delivered to a private company for recycling. The first contestants received cash prizes, sources disclosed. The authority is focusing on these bottles, as they are among the pollutants with severe impact on the environment. This is part of the concerted efforts of various government agencies to convert waste into energy, sources added.
