Customs foils bid to smuggle cigarettes & subsidized food

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 10: A large quantity of cigarettes which was being smuggled to Saudi Arabia from Kuwait was confiscated at Salmi border checkpoint. According to sources, Salmi customs officers were on alert based on instructions from Salmi Customs Supervisor Mater Al-Saeedi and were inspecting everyone who passed through the border checkpoint. In the course of their duty, they came across 304 dozen cartons of cigarettes that were being transported to Saudi Arabia from Kuwait without obtaining export clearance. Salmi customs officers took necessary action.

Meanwhile, customs officers arrested an Arab expatriate who attempted to smuggle large quantities of subsidized items and medicines to an Arab country via Salmi border checkpoint on a heavy vehicle. According to sources, an inspector was checking the cargo aboard a heavy vehicle that had arrived at the border checkpoint and found big quantities of subsidized items and medicines which Kuwait offers to its citizens and are not allowed to be exported without permission from the concerned authorities in Kuwait. The heavy vehicle was seized and the driver was arrested. Necessary legal action was taken.
