KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: The Court of Appeals has nullified the verdict of the First Instance Court that sentenced a Kuwaiti man, in absentia, to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor for raping an Asian housemaid. The court refrained from imposing penalty on the accused. Case files indicate the housemaid was in the kitchen cooking for her sponsor when the suspect touched her sensitive parts, so she shouted and went into her room to take a shower. To her surprise, the man followed her to the room and had sex with her by force. She said the suspect thanked her thereafter and left the room. She claimed the same man raped her two weeks earlier during which he pulled her by the hair. Attorney Abdul-Wahab Bin Salamah, who represented the accused in court, questioned results of the investigation as the investigators did not question the suspect’s mother. He argued the statements of the plaintiff were inconsistent with the legal medical report, while his client vehemently denied the allegation. He insisted there is no proof to substantiate the plaintiff’s claim.

Woman ‘punished’: The Family Section in the First Instance Court obligated a female citizen to return the dowry to her husband and get divorce from him as she deeply hurt him when she had an affair with a young man and wore bikini at the beach. Attorney Faisal Al-Utaibi filed the case on behalf of the husband, pointing out his client married his wife and they have children. He disclosed the wife frequently went out late at night to attend parties with another man. He said the wife consumes alcohol and drugs, supporting the claims with photos of the scantily clad wife engaged in immoral acts with another man. The witnesses supported the statements of the lawyer.
