KUWAIT CITY, Jan 14: The Criminal Court acquitted an Asian woman of stealing from a citizen’s house. The Public Prosecution charged the woman, along with two unidentified persons, with stealing cash and valuables when they broke into the house of the citizen as described in investigation reports. Details of the case revealed that when the victim returned to his house one night, he was surprised to see the outside door open and broken. Upon entering the house, he found out that some cash and valuables were missing. Attorney Ismet Kherbotala, who represented the Asian woman in court, pointed out the lack of incriminating evidence so she requested for acquittal of her client asserting the arrest and search procedures taken by the officer in charge of the case were invalid and inconclusive.

Libel and slander: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted three expatriates of libel and slander after the Court of First Instance fined them. Details of the case revealed the victim received calls from a male and two female expatriates who allegedly insulted her, denigrating her honor. Lawyer for the accused, Attorney Abdulrahman Al-Watari, argued in court that the supposed victim intentionally committed fraud by concealing the truth before the court. He said the victim owns a salon for women and one of the accused had her hair done at the salon but due to a mistake in the procedures, she experienced hair fall, so she suffered from physical and moral damages. The woman, her husband and the other female expatriate tried to reach an amicable settlement with the owner of the salon but their efforts proved futile. This prompted the three accused to tell the salon owner about their intention to report to the Consumer Protection Department, yet the salon owner filed a complaint at a police station accusing them of libel and slander
