Citizenship focus of special session

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 20: National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim invited the MPs to the special session slated for Jan 23 as per Article 72 of the Assembly Decree. The session is in response to the request of MPs Al-SaifiMubarak Al-Saifi, Musaed Al- Ardi, Abdulkareem Al-Kandari, Thamer Al- Suwait, Muhammad Al-Mutair, Mubarak Al- Hajraf, Marzouq Al-Khalifa, Fares Al- Otaibi and Shuaib Al-Muwaizri. This is for deliberation and voting on the proposal of several MPs to amend Law No. 20/1981 regarding the establishment of the First Instance Court, particularly the administrative disputes. It is aimed at expanding the authority of the court to rule on cases related to Kuwaiti citizenship.

Meanwhile, MP Marzouq Al- Khalifa asked Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Ali Al-Musa if a committee was formed to interrogate the deputy directors general of the Vegetable Resources and Legal Affairs departments at the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) about their failure to submit statements on the distribution of agricultural plots to the committee that was formed according to ministerial decision number 602/2021 for the latter ensure that the proper procedures were followed. If yes, the lawmaker requested for a copy of the interrogation results. If no, he wants to know the reasons for not doing so.

MP Thamer Al-Suwait forwarded queries to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, Electricity, Water and Sustainable Energy Muhammad Al- Fares about the steps taken by the Ministry of Oil, Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation (KNPC) and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) regarding the comments of the State Audit Bureau (SAB) on the final account of KOC for fiscal 2020 /2021. He pointed out that the report included financial violations committed during the settlement of the contracts, which led to losses estimated at KD223 million. He asked if a fact-finding committee was formed to determine the causes of such loss. If yes, he requested for a list of the committee members and copy of the report. He inquired if the contracts were settled through public tenders or direct contracting. He wants to know the companies which participated in the tenders and those which won the tenders. He also asked if KOC formed a committe to investigate why the spaces allotted for equipment supplied as per Contract No. 17052578 have remained empty, if the Ministry of Oil or KNPC took measures to prevent the repetition of such violations.

MP Khalid Al-Otaibi forwarded queries to Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, Communication and Information Technology Affairs Rana Al-Fares; as well as Minister of Social Affairs and Societal Development and Minister of Sate for Housing Affairs and Urban Development Mubarak Al-Arow.
