KUWAIT CITY, Nov 11: Treasurer of Kuwait Medical Association Dr Muhammad Al-Obaidan has called on the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) to add the title, ‘Doctor’, in the civil identification cards of Kuwaiti doctors who obtained the Kuwaiti Board Certificate from Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialties (KIMS) and its equivalent without the need to go to any other entity, reports Al- Qabas daily.

In a press statement, Al- Obaidan disclosed that PACI requires Kuwaiti doctors to obtain an equivalency certificate from the Ministry of Higher Education proving the equivalency of the Kuwaiti Board Certificate with that of the Doctorate of Philosophy in order to add ‘Doctor’ in their civil identification cards. He argued the Civil Service Commission (CSC) acknowledges in all official letters that the educational level of the Kuwaiti Board is equivalent to doctorate. He wondered why PACI requires a certificate equivalent to the one originally issued by the State of Kuwait, and from an institute affiliated with the Ministry of Health; considering the certificate is recognized throughout the world. He urged PACI to make it easier for doctors to put the title, ‘Doctor’, in their civil identification cards and cancel incapacitating conditions; asserting they have the right to put the title in all of their identification documents.
