Al-Afasi proposes set of precautionary measures against coronavirus

KUWAIT CITY, March 18: Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf Dr Fahd Al-Afasi during a meeting with the senior officials of the ministry is set to have proposed a set of precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus, most notably the imposition of a ban on mass ‘iftar meals’ during Ramadan and the distribution of packaged meals to individuals instead of people squatting at the mosques, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Sources revealed that Al-Afasi has issued orders to do away with volunteers during Ramadan saying there is no need for them because of the closure of mosques and laid emphasis on the ministry sending the message across through publication in the social media and satellite channels, and the stressed on the role of clerics to educate the people.

Meanwhile, lawyer Mubarak Al- Nuwaibet said the owners of cafés are the most affected among the lot because of the corona crisis, but insisted that they are obliged to pay rents, reports Al-Anba daily. He added there is a legal committee in the Council of Ministers to study such issues and discuss the losses the owners of shops have to bear, adding that wages of workers must be paid regardless of the reason of the closure of the shop.
