People who make fun of religions and cultures will not benefit Kuwait or the Kuwaiti people: Mutair

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 4: US comedian and actor Eddie Griffin has been barred from entering Kuwait for allegedly abusing Islam, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Ministry of Interior was quick to respond to the demands from the National Assembly and popular voices to prevent Griffin from entering the country because of his anti-Islam rants.

Griffin, who was born in 1960 and whose shows in Kuwait in the past have fetched between KD 15 and 20, is known for ridiculing heavenly religions according to several video clips. Griffin who was set to host a show in Kuwait in October is said to have ridiculed the hijab and criticized Muslims saying a prospective husband cannot see the face of his future wife. “Muslims are the most devoted among religions,” he said. “But if you ask a Christian to wear a bomb vest and blow himself up for Christ, he will say no,” Griffin is reported to have said in one of his video clips.

“We have been communicating despite the time difference with the Minister of the Interior who at the moment is in the United States, and he has promised not to accept those who offend Islam in any form of mockery,” said MP Khalid Al- Otaibi.

MP Majed Al-Mutairi said: “It is a legitimate and moral duty to bar entry for anyone who wants to tamper with our religious values and Islamic principles. It is a red line. We have been in contact with the Ministry of Interior, which has responded favorably to the popular demands to prevent this man from entering the country.” As part of the public outcry after the announcement of the Griffin party, the preacher Dr Daghash Al- Ajmi said protecting religions is a legitimate duty, while the director of the “Center for the Promotion of Moderation in the Ministry of Awqaf And Islamic Affairs Dr Abdullah Mutair said inviting such people who make fun of religions and cultures will not benefit Kuwait or the Kuwaiti people, but will cause confusion, even an Islamic preacher who is causing problems is unwelcome
