KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: The Court of Cassation announced its ruling on the secondary school exams leakage case; sentencing the main defendants — a male citizen and a female citizen — to two years in prison with hard labor, while an expatriate and another male citizen were sentenced to six months in prison for leaking the secrets of the Ministry of Education; and ordered the recovery of KD308,000 that the accused obtained from selling the exams, in addition to the acquittal of seven defendants. Earlier, the Criminal Court sentenced a male citizen and female citizen to 10 years and seven years in prison respectively with hard labor, while another male citizen and an expatriate were sentenced to one year in prison with hard labor, and deportation of the expatriate after serving prison time.
Before the court sentencing, the Public Prosecution detained the defendants for 21 days to complete investigations and then referred them to the Central Prison for involvement in money laundering by obtaining money through illegal means. Results of investigations revealed that the defendants sold the corrected exams for amounts ranging from KD25 to KD50 per subject.
