KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: MP Saleh Ashour has forwarded queries to Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Hind Al- Subaih on the alleged collection of donations through social networking sites without obtaining a permit.

Ashour pointed out that Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) published a report on July 28, 2016 quoting the minister as saying that 41 violations have been uncovered in the collection of donations through social media platforms and 31 violations committed by individuals not authorized to collect donations.

The minister confirmed that the Ministry of Interior has been informed about the need to take legal action. The minister also unveiled the violations committed by two persons who collected donations through their personal accounts as the act contravenes the decisions and laws on charity work. She added the local banks have been asked to take legal action against these people.

Based on the minister’s statement, Ashour demanded copies of 41 violations uncovered in the social media, 31 violations committed by individuals, and Al-Subaih’s letter to the Ministry of the Interior regarding these violations. He also requested for copies of the violations committed by two persons who collected donations through their personal accounts and correspondences with the concerned local banks.

Meanwhile, MP Abdullah Al-Adwani commended the efforts exerted by National Assembly Speaker Marzouk Ali Al-Ghanim in addressing the gasoline price hike issue, pointing out the Speaker’s demand to be fair and to support the citizens is the demand of all MPs.

In a press statement, Al-Adwani urged the government to rescind its decision to increase the prices of different types of gasoline due its negative economic implications which will, in turn, affect the citizens and expatriates; as well as raise the prices of other commodities.

He is confident that His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak understands the repercussions of raising gasoline prices, in addition to the fact that the government needs to find other financial resources and to stop the wastage of public funds in various institutions. “We must find appropriate solutions to our economic problems without touching the pockets of citizens,” he concluded.
