RBI lets NRIs exchange old currency till 30 June ’17

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 3: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has offered some relief to NRIs for exchanging old currency notes. All NRIs, who have been abroad during Nov 9, 2016 to Dec 30, 2016 can avail this facility till June 30, 2017.

The limit for NRIs is Rs 25,000 per person. Indians living abroad can avail of this facility on submission of ID proof like “Aadhaar” Card and Permanent Account Number (PAN).

No representations for depositing old notes on behalf of any third party will be accepted, says a press release from the Embassy of India. This facility is at the RBI branches of Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Nagpur.
