KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: The First Instance Court has obliged the Undersecretary at Ministry of Education to pay housing allowance to an expatriate female teacher according to a verdict issued by the Constitutional Court. The case file indicated the teacher filed a complaint asking for equality in terms of the payment of KD 150 housing allowance to her male counterparts, indicating the teacher had been receiving housing allowance KD 60 as stipulated for female teachers but she requested additional KD 90 to be on par with male teachers.

Attorney Khawlah Al-Hasawi representing the plaintiff in court argued that the verdict of the Constitutional Court is against inequity in the payment of KD 150 housing allowances to male teachers and KD 60 to female teachers, indicating the act is not constitutional. The court has thus obliged the Ministry Undersecretary to pay housing allowance to the expatriate lady teacher as per the Constitutional Court verdict.
