KUWAIT CITY, Nov 1: Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, has issued a ministerial decree forming an extraordinary committee to draft new regulations for Kuwait’s cooperative sector.
The committee, to be chaired by the ministry’s Undersecretary, Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, will include senior officials responsible for cooperative affairs. It has been tasked with reviewing existing cooperative regulations, proposing a modernized regulatory framework, and enhancing governance, transparency, and operational efficiency within the sector.
In a statement on Saturday, Minister Al-Huwailah said the decision aligns with directives from Kuwait’s political leadership aimed at revitalizing the cooperative sector and strengthening its developmental and social role. She added that the move underscores the ministry’s commitment to updating legislation and regulations to support the cooperative movement and ensure its sustainable contributions to society.
The decree requires the committee to submit a comprehensive report detailing its findings along with the proposed bylaws within 60 days, with the possibility of a one-month extension if necessary.
