NEW YORK, Sept 4: In an unexpected turn of events at the Fashion Row Fashion Show and Style Awards held in Harlem on Tuesday night, supermodel Naomi Campbell and Vogue editor Anna Wintour found themselves in a public feud. The altercation unfolded onstage in front of a large audience.
The drama began when Anna Wintour took the podium and made a pointed remark about Naomi Campbell's punctuality. “I am a very punctual person, and I have the honor of presenting tonight to someone who is often late,” Wintour said, clearly targeting Campbell. Wintour's frustration with Campbell's tardiness led her to leave the event early.
Following Wintour's departure, Samira Nasr, editor-in-chief of Harper's Bazaar, stepped in to present the Fashion Icon Award to Naomi Campbell. When Campbell took the stage to accept the award, she acknowledged her reputation for being late but reassured the audience that things always work out as they should.
In a veiled criticism of Wintour, Campbell expressed her preference for having Nasr present the award over Wintour. “It wasn’t my choice to have the other lady [Wintour]. I’d much rather have this,” Campbell said, referring to Nasr. This comment elicited audible gasps from the audience, highlighting the tension between the two fashion icons.
As it stands, the incident suggests that Campbell and Wintour may not be mending fences anytime soon.
