KUWAIT CITY, Jan 31: Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdullah Al-Mihanna has confirmed the installation of mobile radars in different areas to detect cars running beyond the speed limit, especially on the highways, reports Al-Kuwaitiya daily.

Teams from the General Traffic Department (GTD) will confiscate the car immediately upon detection of traffic violations in accordance with the existing traffic rules and regulations. An administrative decision will be taken to impound the car for four months during the first year of issuing the citation if the motorist commits a grave violation like driving beyond the speed limit, crossing a red light or reckless driving.

Al-Mihanna affirmed the department is strictly enforcing Article 24 of the Traffic Law that was ratified two years ago in a bid to regulate traffic movement and prevent reckless actions on the road. He warned a vehicle will be impounded for more than four months if a grave violation is repeated within the same year, while attributing decrease in the number of road accidents leading to death to the strict application of the law.
