Ministry eyes charging consumers for cost of reconnecting electricity supply

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: Ministry of Electricity and Water is considering the possibility of charging consumers the cost for reconnecting their electricity supply after it was disconnected due to violations or repair works, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that Kuwait Municipality addresses Ministry of Electricity and Water about the violations of the relevant consumers or the need for some repair work so that their electricity supply is cut off. According to the existing system, the repair costs are borne by Ministry of Electricity and Water. However, the ministry is considering the possibility of charging the consumers the costs for maintenance works, digging and the cables. The charges will differ based on the violations and the maintenance activities.

Meanwhile, Minister of Electricity and Water Ahmad Al-Jassar has signed a contract for establishing seven main transformer stations in Jabriya, Khaitan, Bayan, Andalous, Zahra, Salwa and Sulaibikhat areas followed by other areas of Kuwait, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The total cost of the project, which will take 24 months for completion, is KD 24,975,000. It will supply the electrical distribution network with 72MW of power and will ensure supply for the future housing projects.

In another development, the The emergency team affiliated to Trade Control and Customer Protection Department of Ministry of Commerce and Industry confiscated 84 kilograms of spoilt fish which were being displayed for sale in Souk Mubarakiya, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Head of the emergency team Abdul Deem Al-Shammari and his team members stopped an agent before he even started asking for bids for the 84 kgs of the spoilt fish during the auction of fish at Souk Mubarakiya. The team issued citations and legal measures against the company and the owner of the fish are in preparation. The team is on continuous patrol of the fish markets to monitor the prices and curb any attempts to deceive consumers.
