Ministry affirms vaccine efficacy

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12, (Agencies): The Health Ministry reiterated the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines expected to be delivered in the near future, stressing its approval by international and local regulators. An attached declaration to complete pre-registration for immunisation from the virus on the ministry’s official website, launched Thursday, is not intended to disclaim responsibility for the safety of the vaccine, read a ministry press release.

The admission is intended to remove liability in the event the applicant chooses to provide incorrect information about their medical history or to conceal necessary information about their health condition, which may lead to complications as a result.

The ministry went on to underline its commitment to the role it was entrusted with to maintain public health through means of prevention and the treatment of diseases and pandemics. It noted that some “complications” have resulted from the request leading to a change in the declaration’s wording to prevent confusion.

Kuwait listed 255 new coronavirus infections on Saturday to raise the total 146,044, while one death recorded over the past 24 hours upped the death toll from the outbreak to 911, the health ministry said. The number of people hospitalised with the virus currently stands at 3,308, with 68 of them in intensive care units, according to ministry spokesman Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad, who revealed that some 4,824 swab tests were conducted over the last day out of a total of 1,176,983.

The ministry had earlier reported that some 256 more people had been cured from the virus over the past day, raising the total of those to have overcome the disease to 141,825. He went on to urge nationals and expatriates alike that abiding by health precautions, mainly, following social distancing rules, is the only way to halt the spread of the virus.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Health said the Ministry has launched a campaign for online registration for vaccination against the novel coronavirus (COVID- 19). The new service is available via a link on the Ministry’s website, Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad said in statements to KUNA on Thursday evening. “As part of preparation for the vaccination campaign, the Ministry developed an operating mechanism and a detailed plan outlining the segments of the public who have priority access to the vaccine,” he noted.

“Early registration does not necessarily lead to early vaccination or priority; it only provides the Ministry with the data that could help identify the prioritized segments of the public and the required quantity and distribution of the vaccine. “It can help conduct the vaccination in an easy and orderly way, taking into account of the numbers of citizens and foreign residents, including illegal residents,” Dr Al-Sanad explained. The public vaccination campaign targets everybody and will be conducted in coordination with all competent state bodies, he said, voicing hope that all people will register in the coming few days.

The Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basel Al- Sabah, commenting on what was published by the Al-Seyassah daily, that three sites for vaccination against corona ‘COVID-19’, said the vaccination will be given in a hall which has been prepared at the Kuwait Fairgrounds in Mishref, which may be the largest in the region, and that the ability to vaccinate may reach 10,000 people per day while the two other sites which are being prepared are in Jahra and Ahmadi, to make the vaccination process to be completed smoothly.

The vaccination campaign against corona will take place in multiple stages according to priorities, leading to the completion of the vaccination of most citizens and residents during the year after being approved by the international health authorities. Dr Al-Sabah expressed his hope that the accreditation will be completed before the end of the December 2020 following which the vaccination campaign will begin.
