Ministry activates service to request OK for e-chargers

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 6: Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy activated the service of requesting the approval of an electric vehicle charger through the ministry’s website, along with the general requirements for installing electric chargers in various locations, in order to preserve the electrical network and the vehicle, reports Al-Jarida daily. The requirements are represented in 14 items, the most important of which is “avoiding vehicles colliding with the chargers equipment at the service provider by keeping safe distances.

The Ministry of Electricity and Water stressed the importance of installing charging equipment in well-lit areas, with the service provider’s commitment to providing shelters in places designated for charging electric vehicles and their equipment.

The sources stressed on the importance of the dimensions of the vehicles charger so as not to hinder traffic or the movement of people particularly the physically challenged with the importance of making a concrete base for the electric charger that is not less than 25 cm high from the surface on which the charger is to be installed.

The sources pointed to the importance of adhering to the general requirements and security and safety instructions of the Directorate-General of Fire Department (DGFD) and the General Directorate of Civil Defense, while not allowing the installation of constant-current electric chargers in private housing, the agricultural sector, and other buildings during the first phase, and the necessity of following the security and safety standards mentioned in the list of electric chargers by the ministry.

The sources explained that if these chargers are installed without the Ministry’s approval, whoever installed them will be subject to legal accountability, stressing the importance of obtaining the necessary licenses for their installation, while preventing their use for commercial purposes without the Ministry’s license and according to the controls that will be set for that and in coordination with other relevant authorities, taking into account not allowing resale The electricity provided for that service is at the subsidized rate.
