Maids offices protest, demand issuing of visas for maids

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 26: The owners of domestic labor recruitment offices recently organized a protest at the Ministry of Health to demand for resumption of the issuance of entry visas for domestic workers in accordance with the health regulations in place for dealing with the corona pandemic, reports Al-Jarida daily. The protesters demanded for a meeting with the health committee tasked to deal with the pandemic.

They urged the committee to coordinate with them in laying down a health plan for domestic workers. They disclosed the losses of 420 domestic labor recruitment offices from March till date has reached KD 6,720,000; indicating the losses of the smallest office exceeds KD 2,000 per month and a total of KD 840,000 for all offices.

They said: “We want to inform you about our request before resorting to the Kuwaiti judiciary, as we have incurred enormous financial losses. Article 25 of the Constitution indicates that the State guarantees community solidarity in bearing the burdens resulting from public disasters and tribulations, and compensation for those affected by war damage or due to the performance of military duties.”

They added “the decision to stop the issuance of entry visas for domestic workers has negatively affected the Kuwaiti family that encountered many problems due to this measure. During this period, the marginal workers who violated the Residency Law offer domestic services at high prices; hence, the Kuwaiti family spends a lot of money for this purpose.”
