Lakers, Tahrir make winning starts

Lakers and Tahrir teams won the two matches that were held on the first day of the First Kuwait Basketball Championship for the disabled with wheelchairs, organized by Kuwait Disabled Sports Club. According to a press release, the championship will come to an end on Tuesday, Feb 6. In the first match that was between the Lakers team and Aboudka team, the latter was defeated by a score of 62-42. The Lakers team had dominated the match thanks to the efforts of the national basketball star Yousef Khalaf who is regarded as the best player globally. Another national team player Essa Al-Fadhli who is a member of the Aboudka team also gave good performance.

In the second match, Al-Tahrir team defeated the Olympic Team by a score of 43-39. The match was balanced and exciting, and the result was determined only after the fourth round. Secretary General of Kuwait Disabled Sports Club and Head of the Asian Disabled Basketball Association Sa’ad Al-Azma’a praised the distinguished level of the championship and the excellent performance of the players. He affirmed that the championship is one step closer for the national team to prepare for the West Asian competitions to be held in Amman, Jordan followed by the Asian Games (Asiad) that will be held in Jakarta later this year.

Al-Azma’a called on businessmen to follow the steps of Abdullah Al-Jasser who is the main sponsor of the championship, stressing that such championships are very important for the players as there are no local tournaments for the disabled basketball players. He revealed that the two matches of the golden square will be held today, whereby the team in the first place will play against the third team, and the team in second place will play against the fourth team. The results of the two matches will determine the two teams that will play the final match on Tuesday.
